Planned water supply maintenance for 7 to 11 June 2026

The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will conduct planned work in the identified areas, which may result in water supply disruptions. This critical maintenance work is done on our water supply infrastructure to benefit customers. Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to take note of the work that will take place and prepare accordingly.
Residents are advised to store enough water in advance as a precautionary measure. Water should be stored in clean, sealed containers. This precaution does not guarantee that all residents will experience a water disruption, but it aims to ensure they can prepare if one does occur.
Planned maintenance work will result in a water supply disruption to these areas:
Molteno Reservoir shutdown
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate shut down the Molteno Reservoir from 19:00 on Sunday, 7 June 2026, until 08:00 on Monday, 20 July 2026. During this period, the reservoir level will be completely drawn down to enable the maintenance team to complete its annual cleaning and do repairs to the sections identified. The Kloofnek Water Treatment Plant (WTP) will be operational to continue with the water supply provision during this period. No water supply disruptions are expected during the cleaning of the reservoir.
Silver Oaks – Kuils River
The City will shut off the water supply temporarily to the Silver Oaks area in Kuils River on Tuesday, 9 June 2026, from 08:00 until 18:00. This will enable the maintenance team to safely connect the newly installed water supply pipelines to the existing water supply infrastructure. Residents in this area will experience no water during this period.
Maitland
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to the Maitland area, on Tuesday, 9 June 2026, from 10:00 until 15:00. This will enable the maintenance team to do a boundary valve verification on the water supply zone for the area, to determine unmapped inflows. It will result in intermittent water supply disruption during this period. Residents are requested to store enough water in advance in clean, sealed containers for domestic use during this period.
Part of Glencairn
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to the area bounded by Duiker Street, Penguin Drive and possibly surrounds in Glencairn from 09:00 until 19:30 on Wednesday, 10 June 2026. This will allow for the safe connection of the newly installed water mains to the existing water supply infrastructure at the intersection of Duiker Street and Penguin Drive in Glencairn. Residents in these roads and possibly surrounding roads in Glencairn will experience no water during this period.
Part of Rondebosch
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to a part of Rondebosch, on Tuesday, 9 June 2026, from 09:00 until 17:00. This will enable the maintenance team to assess the area impacted when the actual shut-off to replace water supply infrastructure, will be happening on Thursday, 11 June 2026 from 09:00 until 19:00. Milner Road, Kromboom Road, Stuart Road, Columbine Road, Oban Road, Rusacre Road, Herold Road, Rubicon Road, Golden Street, Ayton Road, Dudgeon Road, Ian and Gambonia Road, situated between Avenue de Mist and Kromboom Road possibly the immediate surrounding streets in Rondebosch will experience no water during these periods.
Pelican Heights
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to Pelican Heights, on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, from 09:00 until 16:00. This will enable the maintenance team to safely do technical assessments of the water supply network in the area. It will result in intermittent water supply disruption during this period. Residents are requested to store enough water in advance in clean, sealed containers for domestic use during this period.
Diep River and Wynberg
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to Diep River and Wynberg, on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, from 09:00 until 16:00. This will enable the maintenance team to safely do technical assessments of the water supply network in the area. It will result in intermittent water supply disruption during this period. Residents are requested to store enough water in advance in clean sealed containers for domestic use during this period.
Claremont, Wynberg and Kenilworth
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to parts of Claremont, Wynberg and Kenilworth below the railway line on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, from 09:00 until 18:00 to enable the maintenance team to tie-in the remaining Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) on the water supply main for this water supply zone. A large part of these areas will experience lower than usual water pressure and a smaller part will have no water supply during this period. Residents are advised to store enough water in advance in clean, sealed containers for domestic use.
Part of Plattekloof 2
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to Tecoma Crescent, Witels Close, Keurboom Crescent and possibly surrounds in the Plattekloof 2 area on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, from 10:00 until 15:00. This will enable the maintenance team to do a test shut-off on the water supply zone for the area to determine unmapped inflows. It will result in intermittent water supply disruption during this period. Residents are requested to store enough water in advance in clean, sealed containers for domestic use during this period.
Saxenberg
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to Saxenberg on Thursday, 11 June 2026, from 09:30 until 16:00 to install a water meter on the water supply main to the area. Consumers in this area will experience no water during this period.
Parts of the Steenberg Golf Estate
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to parts of the Steenberg Golf Estate, on Thursday, 11 June 2026, from 08:00 until 17:00 which will result in a water supply disruption. This will enable the maintenance team to safely complete the installation of the Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) valve to the existing water reticulation pipelines along Charnwood Avenue including the hotel. Residents in the affected area will experience no water during this period and are advised to store enough water in advance in clean, sealed containers for domestic use during this period.
Parts of Kommetjie
The water supply will be temporarily shut off to the area bounded by Protea Avenue, Lighthouse Road, Disa Avenue, Huskisson Way and surrounds in Kommetjie on Thursday, 11 June 2026, from 09:00 until 19:30. This will enable the safe completion of connections to the existing water supply infrastructure at the intersections of Strelitzia Road and Protea Avenue and Strelitzia Road and Disa Avenue. The areas affected by the shut-off will be Protea Avenue, Strelitzia Road, Disa Avenue and possibly surrounds in Kommetjie. Residents in these streets in Kommetjie will experience no water during this period.
Parts of Sun Valley
The water supply will be temporarily shut off to the area bounded by Frigate Crescent, Corsair Way, Corvette Avenue, Longboat Street, Cruiser Close and possibly surrounds in Sun Valley on Thursday, 11 June 2026, from 09:00 until 19:30. This will enable the safe completion of connections to the existing infrastructure at the intersections of Chebec Crescent and Frigate Crescent, Chebec Crescent and Cruiser Close, Chebec Crescent and Longboat Street and Jangada Street and Corvette Avenue. Residents in these streets and possibly surrounding areas in Sun Valley will experience no water during this period.
Westridge – Somerset West
The City will be shutting off the water supply temporarily to Westridge in Somerset West, on Thursday, 11 June 2026, from 09:00 until 16:00. This will enable the maintenance team to continue conducting investigations and various pressure tests on the water supply network in the area. It will result in intermittent water supply disruption during this period. Residents are requested to store enough water in advance in clean sealed containers for domestic use during this period.

Zero-pressure tests (ZPT) and conditional assessments will be done on the water supply network, resulting in water supply disruptions in the following areas:
- Tuesday, 9 June 2026, from 09:00 to 16:00: Sun Valley
- Wednesday, 10 June 2026, from 09:00 to 17:00: Crossroads, Nyanga and Brown’s Farm, Philippi
Residents are advised to store water in advance as a precautionary measure in clean, sealed containers for domestic use during this period.
Zero-pressure testing and step-testing are part of the installation process for zone management infrastructure. Tests are done in advance to see if any unmapped inflows need to be considered before installing new infrastructure (such as pressure-reducing valves for pressure management).
In these affected areas, some residents may experience low water pressure while some may have no water during the testing period. Unfortunately, it is not possible to predict which exact areas or streets will experience disruptions.
Additional zone management investigations will be carried out to ensure that the existing infrastructure is operating effectively. Pressure fluctuations may be experienced, but every effort will be made to minimise the impact as far as possible.
This work forms part of the City’s Water Demand Management Strategy. Managing water pressure more effectively reduces the possibility of pipe bursts and water wastage.

Smart meter pre-installation survey (informative)
The City of Cape Town has appointed PPD Engineering and Hardware Supplies to carry out site surveys ahead of installing smart water meters. Teams will be visiting selected properties in Table View, Cape Town City Centre, Epping Industria 1, Stikland Industria, Blackheath Industria, Parklands, Eversdal, Tokai, Bellville CBD, Milnerton and Rondebosch from Monday, 8 June 2026, to Saturday, 13 June 2026, as part of this process.
This forms part of the City’s programme to modernise water metering and improve how water is managed across Cape Town. Residents are encouraged to cooperate with the survey team where possible. Your participation will help ensure a smooth rollout of smart water meters in your area.

What residents need to know about larger-scale planned water supply disruptions:
- Careful consideration has been given to the planning of this work to ensure it is being done at a time that is least disruptive to the water supply.
- All sites where water and sanitation repairs and upgrades are conducted are deemed to be construction sites and, as such, are off-limits to members of the public.
- Sometimes the maintenance work can be more complex than anticipated, which means the work could take longer.
- For a short period after the supply has been restored, the water may be discoloured or look milky. This is because of trapped air in the pipes. If left to stand in a glass, the appearance will become clear, like normal.
